THE COZUMEL WEEKLY. (2011). 

Obelisk that is located on the median of Rafael E. Melgar Avenue on the corner of First South Street, right in front of the Esplanade of the Flag and the Eagles, in the heart of the island.

This monument consists of an obelisk-shaped structure that holds the name of the Children Heroes, who defended Mexico from the North American invasion on September 13th, 1847: Juan de la Barrera, Juan Escutia, Francisco Márquez, Agustín Melgar, Fernando Montes de Oca, Vicente Suárez and José Azueta.

This monument was built in 1947 on the centenary of the heroic deed of the Children Heroes, as stated on the commemorative plaque installed on the back of said obelisk, which is admired by all the visitors and inhabitants who walk through it daily. the boardwalk
