Mr. General Rafael Eustacio Melgar Andrade, an Oaxacan born in 1887 in Yanhuitlán, obtained his rank for merits in the campaign during the revolution. Before being named Governor of Quintana Roo in 1935, he had been a federal deputy in 1930 among other public positions.
He was Governor of Quintana Roo from February 11, 1935 to December 1940, almost 6 years in which he left the firm foundations for the development of our entity. We find its mark in every corner of our state, meaning in Chetumal the “Belisario Domínguez” School, the “Morelos” Hospital, the “Los Cocos” Hotel, the ground floor of the Government Palace, the “Lázaro Cárdenas” cistern and the road. from Peto to Chetumal, among many other works.
In Cozumel he is remembered in his works: boardwalk, pier and esplanade with the flag, the reconstruction of the Government Delegation, the completion of the “Benito Juárez” School building, the flea market, the “Emiliano Zapata” market, the Hotel “Beach” today the island’s museum, among others.
