VIVAS VALDÉS, VEUDI. (2023). NOTES AND RESEARCH – HISTORIAN CHRONICLER OF COZUMEL. INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY THE DIRECTORATE OF TOURISM AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF COZUMEL
The first lighthouse signaling the port has had three different locations.
The first with a metal structure on rafael e. Melgar avenue between 1st street south and benito juarez avenue.
During the government of general rafael e. Melgar, the general direction of lighthouses reinstalled this signal in a concrete tower, structure that still exists in punta langosta. Later a new lighthouse was built in “la caletita”, with a height of 36 meters and modern equipment.
Today the lighthouse located in plaza punta langosta, although it is no longer in use and only serves an aesthetic function or tourist attraction, is one of the few old infrastructures on the island of cozumel that have endured today.
